Yes, the time has come for us to actually do what we’ve been talking about for so many years and that’s…leave! We’re getting out of here and can’t wait. We’re both excited and a little nervous, but either way, we’re off this morning.
Nothing is stopping us; our apartment has been sold and money is in the bank, food has been stocked up, car number 2 has been left with a friend of ours who was in need of it as his car broke down (good timing!), all our stuff is in storage, the caravan tent has been taken down and yesterday afternoon we finished a whole list of little things that had to be done before we could really set off:
We filled up our propane gas tanks, bought a cat scratcher that fits in the caravan, filled up the car with diesel, packed the caravan and car for the journey, washed dishes and checked the driveway situation (cut some branches where necessary).
This morning all that is left is to give back the pram we borrowed from the local bar owner (we bought a good one in the meantime), give the caravan a wash and order the bridge ticket from Denmark to Sweden.
We checked the journey and it’s 2,400km to Storuman. Google maps tells us it should take 25 hours, but obviously that’s without a caravan, a baby and a cat. We expect it to take 5 days and who knows what might happen on the way. Snow is already falling along with the temperatures, so we need to test the snow chains before we’re off. But a little snow has never stopped us from going anywhere, we’re just a little worried if it’s icy and how that would go with a caravan. It’s going to be an adventure, that’s for sure!
We’re leaving behind a huge chapter in our lives and starting a completely new one. Who knows what is going to happen. All we know is that we’re going to make the best of it.
Luxembourg has been good to us; it’s where we met, where we fell in love, where we bought an apartment together, where we made friends and where we had many, many parties. We had great times and some of the worst times. But no matter what has happened, we made sure we learned from it and try to improve ourselves as human beings. Isn’t that what life is about?
Sorry to those who we haven’t managed to say goodbye to and big thanks to those who have helped us along the way to where we are.
We'll be sending more updates from our trip soon!
Love to you all,
Caroline, Vince, little Amber and Fraggle
dear friends, we wish you a safe journey and are looking out to your blog updates; Marijke
Oooh it’s so exciting - the beginning of a new and adventurous chapter in your book of life! Please take real good care with the driving and towing of the caravan and even if it takes 10 days instead of 5 - well, that doesn’t matter!! I hope you enjoy the journey for I’m sure the landscape will be spectacular in that part of the world. Can’t wait for the next instalment of your story!
love and best wishes to you all
